Jennifer Wolowic is an anthropologist and ethnographer with over 15 years of experience working with diverse groups, including visible minorities, First Nations, LGBTQ, and youth. 

She currently helps lead the SFU Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue’s Strengthening Canadian Democracy Initiative. Her work identifies ways to encourage democratic participation and strengthen a collective culture of democracy. 

She has published op-eds, been quoted in popular media, made radio appearances and presented to all levels of government. She has also collaborated with the Lt. Governor of BC, non-profits, youth groups, as well as international academic and public audiences. 

Jennifer holds a Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia in Interdisciplinary Studies and is an award-winning documentary filmmaker whose work has been screened internationally. She is also a 2019 recipient of the UBC School of Nursing Centennial Medal of Distinction for her contributions to applied research and outreach to solve social problems.

Jennifer is currently focused on convening stakeholders and citizens on the issue of provincially legislated local government public hearings in British Columbia. She is leading a CMHC funded project to explore how a process that often frustrates all parties involved could be improved.
